Precision and analytical balances for QC labs and food plants

By Sadguru Research & Analysis Laboratory · 23 October 2026

Every moisture test, reagent and recipe batch depends on accurate weighing. Choosing the right readability and capacity, and checking the balance daily, matters more than the brand.

0.01 g or 0.001 g?

A 0.01 g precision balance suits ingredient weighing, batch formulation and most food QC. A 0.001 g (1 mg) balance is needed for small reagent quantities and gravimetric tests like moisture and ash on small samples.

Placement and calibration

Use a solid table away from fans, AC vents and doors. Level the balance, let it warm up, and check it daily with a known calibration weight. Record the check.

For audits

FSSAI, ISO and customer audits ask for calibration records. Get the balance calibrated by an accredited agency once a year.

Common questions

Can I use a jewellery scale in the lab?

For rough work, perhaps, but lab balances are built for stability, repeatability and calibration. Use a proper lab balance for QC.

Why does the reading keep changing?

Air drafts, vibration, static or a warm sample. Use a draft shield and let samples cool first.

Test before you spend

A laboratory report tells you exactly what your water or food needs, so you buy the right equipment once. We test water to IS 10500 and food to FSSAI standards, with sample pickup across Kolkata.
